Alphabet, Amazon, SpaceX, Microsoft, Broadcom, and AMD Are Counting on Anthropic's IPO. Not All Their Contracts Are Equal.
Anthropic's IPO prospectus puts hard numbers on its compute commitments to six major suppliers, and the contract terms differ sharply. The size of each headline figure matters less than how binding it is.
Three suppliers hold noncancelable minimum-spending commitments: GOOGL at $114.5B, AMZN at $110B, and MSFT at $44.9B. These are the firmest revenue claims in the group, because Anthropic owes the money regardless of its own trajectory. GOOG, GOOGM, and GOOGN, the other Alphabet listings, ride the same parent exposure.
SPCX sits at the weak end. Its $120.5B agreement, the largest single figure among the three supplier deals above, can be terminated on 90 days' notice. Interpretation: a deal that size with a 90-day exit carries far less revenue certainty than the headline implies.
AVGO shows $161.2B in noncancelable equipment leases, the biggest locked-in figure in the prospectus. AMD has no fixed commitments, though the filing expects spending above $20B.
The prospectus says contract strength will determine how much potential revenue converts into actual profit. Interpretation: AVGO, GOOGL, AMZN, and MSFT carry the most contractual protection, while AMD and SPCX depend more on Anthropic's continued demand.
