Amazon CEO Andy Jassy Just Made a Wild Prediction. It Could Make the Tech Giant a Big Winner.

Amazon (AMZN) fell 7% after earnings, even as the company reported 12% revenue growth and 61% operating income growth. The selloff signals that investors are weighing massive AI capital expenditures more heavily than the quarter's top-line and profit performance.

CEO Andy Jassy offered a long-range counterweight. He predicted Amazon could become the first company to run two trillion-dollar revenue businesses within five to ten years, with e-commerce and AWS each potentially reaching $1 trillion in annual revenue.

The tension is clear. The reported numbers were strong: a 61% jump in operating income is a sharp profit expansion. Yet the stock moved the opposite direction, which suggests the market is pricing the cost of the AI buildout ahead of any payoff. That is interpretation, not reported fact, but the 7% drop against double-digit growth makes the point on its own.

Jassy's forecast frames the spending as an investment in scale. A $1 trillion target for each of two businesses would require enormous expansion from current levels, and the five-to-ten-year window leaves plenty of room for execution risk. The prediction is a management ambition, not guidance, and the market has so far declined to credit it.
