Can CYTK's Aficamten Strengthen Its HCM Growth Prospects?
CYTK announced positive results from its ACACIA-HCM and MAPLE-HCM studies, showing aficamten improved cardiac structure and diastolic function in patients with non-obstructive hypertrophic cardiomyopathy and outperformed metoprolol in obstructive HCM. The company plans to file for regulatory approval for non-obstructive HCM in Q4 2026, a move that could significantly expand the drug's addressable patient population beyond the obstructive form.
The data builds on CYTK's December 2025 FDA approval of Myqorzo for obstructive HCM treatment. Aficamten's ability to demonstrate superiority over metoprolol, a standard beta-blocker therapy, strengthens its competitive positioning in the obstructive HCM market. The non-obstructive indication represents incremental opportunity, as that patient subset currently has limited targeted treatment options.
CYTK is positioning aficamten as a dual-indication cardiac myosin inhibitor. The ACACIA-HCM and MAPLE-HCM trial results provide clinical differentiation ahead of the 2026 filing timeline.
