Comtech Sells Satellite Unit To Gilat: What Happens Next?
Comtech Telecom (CMTL) is selling the majority of its Satellite and Space Communications segment to Gilat Satellite Networks for $157.5 million, with the deal expected to close in Q4 2026. The company will net $143-145 million in proceeds earmarked for debt reduction.
The divestiture represents a strategic pivot for Comtech, which plans to concentrate resources on its public safety technology business following the sale. The move comes as the company reported fiscal Q3 results with an adjusted loss of 22 cents per share, beating the Street's 27-cent loss estimate. Revenue of $106.0 million missed the $110.2 million consensus.
The transaction allows Comtech to shed a capital-intensive segment while preserving cash to deleverage its balance sheet. With nearly $145 million flowing to debt paydown, the company is positioning for a tighter operational focus on its remaining public safety unit.
