Corning Surges 93% Year to Date: How to Play the Stock

Corning (GLW) has climbed 93% year to date, powered by AI infrastructure demand that lifted Optical Communications sales 32%. That segment is now the core of the bull case.

Visibility is the key differentiator. GLW has secured multiyear agreements with Meta, NVIDIA (NVDA), Amazon, and Verizon (VZ). Those contracts give the company a defined demand runway rather than spot-market exposure, which is an interpretation of the agreements' structure, not a reported revenue figure.

Solar is the other growth engine. Sales surged 90%, though profitability in the segment remains challenged. That gap between top-line growth and margins is the soft spot in an otherwise strong print.

Forward guidance supports the momentum. Q3 guidance projects 16% sales growth and 28% EPS growth, with Solar profitability expected to improve. EPS growing nearly twice as fast as sales implies operating leverage is built into management's outlook, a reading of the guidance math rather than a stated company claim.
