GE Vernova Reports Oct. 28. Here's the 1 Number That Matters More Than Its Multibillion-Dollar Backlog (Hint: It's Measured in Gigawatts).

GE Vernova (GEV) reports earnings Oct. 28, and the number that matters most isn't its $176 billion backlog. It's gigawatts of gas power capacity, specifically HA-class heavy-duty gas turbines.

The reason is service economics. Each GW of HA turbines generates roughly $500 million in high-margin service revenue over 20 years. That makes each turbine order the start of a long annuity-style revenue stream rather than a one-time sale.

Management has put concrete targets on the table. GE Vernova expects 400 HA machines running or on contract by the end of 2027. It also guided to 20-40 GW of orders in the second half of 2026. Interpretation: at $500 million of lifetime service revenue per GW, that order range implies roughly $10 billion to $20 billion of long-term service value, though that math is our extrapolation, not company guidance.

The wide guidance range is the key variable. Orders near the top end would validate the backlog's quality and point to accelerating service revenue. Orders near the bottom would leave the stock exposed, since the bull case rests on HA volume rather than the headline backlog figure.
