If Alphabet Does This on Oct. 28, the Stock Could Skyrocket

Alphabet reports Q3 earnings on Oct. 28, and Google Cloud's growth rate is the number that will likely move GOOGL and GOOG. Cloud revenue growth accelerated to 82% in Q2, well ahead of Microsoft Azure at 43% and Amazon Web Services at 37%, according to The Motley Fool.

The gap matters for relative positioning. Azure and AWS, the cloud engines behind MSFT and AMZN, are growing at roughly half Google Cloud's pace or less. Interpretation: if Alphabet sustains anything near 82%, it validates the share-gain narrative against both rivals.

The growth is tied to heavy AI workload demand and a capital expenditure plan of $195-205 billion for data centers. That spending level raises the bar. Interpretation: investors will want cloud revenue and margins that justify the outlay, so a growth deceleration would draw scrutiny.

Custom TPUs offer an additional lever. Upcoming revenue from selling these units could add to cloud growth, giving Alphabet a potential revenue stream beyond renting capacity.

Valuation leaves limited cushion. At 27x operating income, Alphabet looks fairly valued, which means upside depends on earnings delivery rather than multiple expansion.
