J&J Q3 Earnings Beat Estimates, Sales Miss, View Raised, Stock Down
Johnson & Johnson (JNJ) shares slid 2% in pre-market trading after Q3 2026 results delivered a mixed print: an earnings beat, a revenue miss, and raised guidance that failed to offset MedTech disappointment.
Adjusted EPS came in at $2.59, ahead of estimates. Sales of $25.4 billion missed expectations. J&J raised its 2026 guidance, but the market focused on the top-line shortfall and the weak MedTech segment.
Innovative Medicine sales grew 7.7%, driven by Tremfya and newer therapies. Stelara continued to face significant biosimilar competition, a headwind the segment's growth absorbed. MedTech was the problem: sales rose just 2.5%, missing estimates, and the source ties the pre-market decline directly to that shortfall.
Interpretation: the 2% drop suggests investors are weighting revenue quality over the EPS beat. A guidance raise normally supports a stock, so the selloff implies MedTech weakness is the larger concern. Strength in Tremfya and newer therapies is offsetting Stelara erosion, but that growth did not lift total sales above estimates.
