Eli Lilly reported phase three TRIUMPH-2 trial results showing 59.5% of participants on retatrutide no longer classified as obese, with over half losing at least 20% of body weight and one-third shedding 25% or more. The triple agonist drug also lowered blood sugar and delivered measurable improvements in arthritis pain and sleep apnea.

Retatrutide's weight-loss performance exceeds that of LLY's tirzepatide and competitor drugs Wegovy and Ozempic, according to the trial data. The company plans to file a biologics license application with the FDA in the first quarter of 2027.

The results position LLY to extend its lead in the obesity treatment market, where demand has already driven significant revenue growth. The drug's triple-agonist mechanism appears to deliver superior efficacy compared to existing GLP-1 receptor agonists, potentially reshaping market share once approved.
