Meta's New AI Search Could Generate $10 Billion A Year— And Challenge Google's Dominance
Meta launched AI Mode, an AI-powered search feature embedded in Facebook Search that uses its Muse Spark model to deliver answers from public content. Morgan Stanley analyst Brian Nowak projects the feature could generate over $10 billion in annual revenue if it attracts 1 billion users and monetizes 10% of daily searches. The launch positions Meta as a direct search competitor to Alphabet's Google.
The revenue model hinges on Meta's ability to monetize search queries through advertising, replicating the playbook that has driven Google's dominance for two decades. Nowak's scenario assumes meaningful scale—1 billion active users—and a conservative 10% monetization rate on daily searches. At that penetration, AI Mode would represent a material new revenue stream for Meta beyond its core social media advertising business.
The move signals Meta's intent to diversify beyond feed-based ads and capitalize on its massive user base across Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp. Google parent Alphabet has historically commanded premium valuations due to its search monopoly; Meta's entry into AI-powered search could compress that competitive moat.
