Nebius stock surges 13% as Nvidia discloses significant stake in neocloud
Nvidia disclosed a 9.3% stake in Nebius, the Amsterdam-based neocloud provider, sending NBIS shares up 17% on Tuesday. The chipmaker announced in March it would invest $2 billion into Nebius as part of a broader push into AI infrastructure.
Nebius has positioned itself as one of Europe's leading neoclouds focused on artificial intelligence workloads. The stake disclosure confirms Nvidia's strategic bet on cloud infrastructure companies that can scale GPU-intensive AI applications. The $2 billion commitment represents one of Nvidia's larger direct equity investments in the infrastructure layer, aligning with its strategy to secure distribution channels for its data center chips beyond traditional hyperscale cloud providers.
The 9.3% position makes Nvidia a significant shareholder in Nebius, potentially influencing the company's technology roadmap and chip procurement strategy. Nebius operates AI-optimized cloud infrastructure across Europe, a market where U.S. hyperscalers face increasing regulatory and data sovereignty headwinds.
