Not Lilly. Not Johnson & Johnson. This Stock Will Be the Biggest Healthcare Winner of 2026
MRNA has surged more than 600% in 2026, and a Motley Fool analysis argues the rally has outrun the fundamentals. The stock now carries a roughly $90 billion market cap, with Wall Street analysts implying about 45% downside from current levels.
Two catalysts drove the move. First, Phase 3 trial results for Moderna's personalized cancer vaccine, intismeran autogene, used in combination with MRK's Keytruda. Second, FDA approval of Moderna's flu vaccine, mFLUSIVA. Both are concrete, validated milestones, which helps explain the scale of the repricing.
The bear case rests on valuation arithmetic. According to the analysis, MRNA would need to generate unrealistic revenue levels to justify a $90 billion market cap. That leaves little room for error: any trial setback, regulatory delay, or soft commercial rollout would land on a stock priced for execution.
Interpretation: the 45% analyst-implied downside suggests the Street sees the good news as already priced in, even as it credits the innovation. The headline framing, "Not Lilly. Not Johnson & Johnson," positions MRNA as the year's standout against LLY and JNJ, but a 600% run makes it the most crowded and fragile of the three.
