Okta Surges 158% YTD: Should Investors Hold the Stock Now?

Okta (OKTA) has surged 157.5% year to date, but Zacks Investment Research is advising investors to hold rather than chase the move, citing competitive pressure, decelerating growth, and a premium valuation.

The bull case rests on enterprise demand for identity security and AI solutions. Newer Okta products are delivering a 40% ACV uplift, and large enterprise customer growth is running above 20%. Those figures point to expansion within the existing customer base rather than reliance on new logos alone.

The bear case is just as concrete. Revenue growth is projected at only 10-11% for fiscal 2027, a pace that sits awkwardly beside a stock that has more than doubled in 2025. Interpretation: the market appears to be pricing in acceleration that current projections do not show, which leaves little margin for error on any earnings miss or guidance trim.

Competition adds another layer. Microsoft (MSFT) and CrowdStrike (CRWD) both compete directly with Okta in identity security. Each is a formidable rival, and either could pressure pricing or win share as enterprises consolidate their security vendors. Zacks flags that threat alongside valuation as the main reason to stay on the sidelines.

The net read: strong product metrics, but a growth rate and multiple that no longer match each other.
