Overnight Pulse

Risk-on tilt with a crude shock — equities firm, oil rips, gold fades.

Asia & Europe

Japan led the world overnight. The $N225 ripped +2.68% to 63,339, extending its AI-fueled run as Samsung wage headlines underscored the regional tech labor squeeze. Hong Kong lagged, with the $HSI off -0.18% to 25,606 — China property and consumer names continue to bleed sentiment. Europe is constructive across the board: $STOXX50E +0.74%, $DAX +0.22%, $FTSE +0.31%, with energy majors carrying the tape on the crude bid. The cross-asset signal is clean: developed-market equities want higher, but the oil move complicates the inflation/duration narrative heading into US cash. Watch European energy follow-through if Brent holds $104.

US Futures Setup

Futures green across the board, but the move is modest. $ES 7,477.75 (+0.16%), $NQ 29,491 (+0.15%), $YM 50,530 (+0.30%), $RTY 2,850 (+0.09%). Dow leads, small-caps lag — a defensive-cyclical tilt rather than a clean risk-on grab. The overnight ES range of 7,466.757,500.50 tells you 7,500 is the line in the sand bulls failed to hold. $VIX 17.01 (+1.49%) firming despite green futures is a tell — hedges getting bid into the weekend. $TNX 4.586% crept higher; the crude move is doing the work on the back end.

Today's Catalysts

No 8:30 ET tier-one print on the docket today — tape will trade on flow, positioning, and the crude tape. Watch for any Fed speakers through the session; the FRB's payment-account proposal dropped yesterday and may draw commentary. Pre-bell earnings calendar is light post-$NVDA. Energy desks will be locked on any Iran headline tape — yesterday's "deal could be close" framing has clearly reversed overnight given the +2%+ crude move.

Names to Watch

(Pre-market quotes are thin — treat single-name prints with skepticism.)

  • ▸$AMD — up +2.2% to $459.50, the standout move pre-bell, riding $NVDA's afterglow and AI-capex read-throughs.
  • ▸$NVDA — $220.01 (+0.23%), digesting the print; the tape's reaction here sets semi tone all day.
  • ▸$WMT — reports pre-bell; consumer health bellwether, watch guide language on tariffs and grocery.
  • ▸$XLE / energy complex — $CL +1.62% to $97.91, $BZ +2.28% to $104.92. Reversal of Wednesday's Iran-deal selloff; energy should lead at the open.
  • ▸$GLD — -0.51% to $414.78 as risk-on bid pulls safe-haven flows; $GC -0.41%. Watch if crude-driven inflation fears reawaken the trade.

The Setup

$SPY 744.31 pre-market. Key levels: 746.50 (overnight ES high equivalent) as resistance, 742.70 prior close as the pivot, 740 as first downside support. Thesis: fade the open into 746 unless crude cools. A $VIX bid with futures green is unusual into a Friday — premium-sellers may get a better entry post-10 AM ET. Energy long, semis tactical, duration cautious.
