Pre-Market Preview — Tuesday, July 14, 2026

By · Independent market intelligence from Sunday Night Futures LLC

Overnight Pulse. Crude rips, tech bid, cyclicals soft — a stagflation-lite tape into the US open.

Asia & Europe. Asia closed mixed with a pro-risk tilt: the Nikkei added +0.74% to 67,743.5 and the Hang Seng rose +0.69% to 24,340.73, shrugging off a Reuters report that Beijing quietly told banks not to re-discount bills below 0.5% — a subtle signal PBoC wants to arrest the rates grind lower without formal tightening. Europe is heavier: DAX -0.31%, FTSE 100 -0.39%, and the EURO STOXX 50 -0.59% at 6,234.24. The read-through: Asia is happy to buy the AI/semis complex, but European risk is discounting the oil spike more directly. Rate-sensitive Continental industrials and autos look to be the pressure point, while UK energy names are cushioning a worse FTSE print.

US Futures Setup. A split tape. ES trades 7,558.25 (-0.06%), NQ leads at 29,596.25 (+0.41%), YM lags at 52,652 (-0.21%), and RTY sits 2,967.3 (-0.1%). The dispersion tells the story: mega-cap semis are dragging Nasdaq higher while Dow cyclicals wear the crude tax. WTI is +3.51% to $80.88 and Brent +4.72% to $87.23 — a real move, not noise. Gold $4,024.8 (+0.48%) and silver $58.25 (+0.47%) confirm the inflation-hedge bid. Dollar-sensitive small caps flat. Bias into the bell: fade Dow strength, respect NQ leadership until crude stalls.

Names to Watch.

  • ▸$AMD +2.24% to $546.36 on thin pre-open tape — Motley Fool floats a bullish Lisa Su Aug. 4 setup; watch for a gap-and-go or a fade at the open.
  • ▸$AAPL -1.13% to $313.58 — the notable mega-cap laggard, no clear catalyst, worth tracking for whether it drags QQQ off highs.
  • ▸$NVDA +0.53% at $204.60 — sympathy bid with AMD; SK Hynix/Micron chatter keeps the memory-and-accelerator complex in focus.
  • ▸$USO +3.61% to $122.10 — the cleanest crude expression; energy majors and refiners will follow.
  • ▸$COIN +0.69% at $158.46 with BTC -0.65% at $62,609 — divergence to watch; single-name strength on a soft crypto tape often fades.

Pre-open volumes are thin — outsized % moves here can easily reverse when cash liquidity arrives.

The Setup. $SPY last $748.77 vs. prior close $749.17. Key levels: $750 as the pivot bulls need to reclaim, $746 as the first support shelf, $752-753 as the upside magnet if NQ leadership broadens. Thesis: with no US high-impact prints on deck, the tape is a crude-vs-semis tug-of-war. Long $QQQ ($715.22) against short $DIA ($523.22) captures the dispersion without taking outright index risk. Flatten if WTI rolls back under $80.
