Pre-Market Preview — Wednesday, July 15, 2026

By · Independent market intelligence from Sunday Night Futures LLC

Overnight Pulse: Risk tilts modestly bid, with Asia leading, crude firming, and gold offered as rate-hike odds creep higher.

Asia & Europe

Asia ran hot into the close. The Nikkei finished +1.49% at 68,751 and the Hang Seng popped +1.93% to 24,681, the standout print of the session as China-sensitive names caught a bid. Europe is more mixed mid-session: FTSE 100 +0.19% at 10,518, buoyed by luxury after Richemont's sales beat lifted the sector, while the DAX lags at -0.55% (24,977). Euro Stoxx 50 flat at 6,280. The read: risk-on in Asia hasn't fully translated into the Continent, where auto and industrial cyclicals are wobbling. That leaves US traders inheriting a constructive but uneven baton.

US Futures Setup

ES 7,598.25 (+0.09%), NQ 29,896 (+0.35%), YM 52,792 (flat), RTY 2,979.3 (-0.02%). Nasdaq is doing the lifting again — mega-cap tech leading with small-caps offered, a familiar barbell. WTI is up +1.18% to $80.28 and Brent +1.24% to $85.78, a notable move given yesterday's headlines around rate-hike odds despite softer oil narratives. Gold is off -0.86% to $4,034, silver -1.24% — precious metals bleeding as the September hike probability firms. Crypto is ripping: BTC +3.18%, ETH +4.99%. Tape says: buy tech, buy energy, sell duration proxies.

Today's Catalysts

Tuesday's CPI landed at 3.46% YoY with Core CPI at 2.57% — hot enough to keep the "73% chance of a September hike" narrative from The Motley Fool front and center. No high-impact prints scheduled today per the calendar, so flows will lean on positioning, earnings drift, and Fed jawboning. IBM's software-sector warning and Fastenal's Q2 miss frame the industrials/software read-through into the open.

Names to Watch

  • ▸$AAPL — $317.55, +0.85% pre-open. Leading the mega-cap tape on thin pre-open volume; watch for follow-through or fade at the bell.
  • ▸$AMZN — $249.10, +0.65%. Constructive with $MSFT (+0.36%) confirming the cloud/AI bid.
  • ▸$AMD — $551.65, +0.64%. Continues to trade heavy relative to $NVDA ($211.11, -0.33%) — the semi split is worth watching.
  • ▸$GOOGL — $358.03, -0.41%. Diverging from mega-cap peers; any negative catalyst here could crack the QQQ leadership.
  • ▸$COIN — $162.75, +0.77%. Crypto beta play with BTC/ETH both up sharply overnight. Space names (Rocket Lab, SpaceX aftermath) also in focus.

Move sizes above reflect thin pre-open books — expect reprice at 9:30.

The Setup

$SPY last $753.60 (+0.24%), prev close $751.83. Key levels: $755 as near-term resistance (round-number magnet with NQ leading), $751.80 prior close as pivot, $749 as first support on any reversal. Thesis: Fade strength above $755 unless breadth confirms — Nasdaq-led tape with RTY flat and gold dumping suggests concentration risk, not a broad melt-up. Long $QQQ dips toward $721 with a tight stop is the cleaner expression.
