Pre-Market Update — Wednesday, June 10, 2026
Pre-Market Pulse: Risk-off bid into the cash open as a hot headline CPI overrides the soft core print — futures lower, $VIX +8.7%, gold dumped, crude bid.
The 8:30 Print
CPI ran hot on the headline, cool on the core — and the tape is reading the headline. May Inflation Rate YoY printed 4.2% (in line, but up from 3.8% prior), with MoM at 0.5%. Core MoM came in softer at 0.2% vs. 0.3% est (prior 0.4%), while Core YoY landed 2.9% in line — but the reacceleration in headline YoY from 3.8% to 4.2% is the dominant signal. $ES=F sliced through 7,360, $NQ=F fell 0.68%, the 10Y yield ticked to 4.532%, and $GLD got smoked -2.77% as the "sticky inflation, hawkish Fed" trade reasserted. $VIX 21.59.
Overnight Action
Europe is sharply lower with the inflation backdrop weighing — DAX -1.46%, FTSE -1.69%, Euro Stoxx 50 -0.51%. Asia closed ugly: Nikkei -1.89%, Hang Seng -1.01%. US futures extended losses post-CPI: $ES=F -0.53% at 7,353.75, $NQ=F -0.68% at 28,919, $YM=F -0.58%, $RTY=F -0.33%. Crude is the standout — $CL=F +1.38% to $89.42, Brent $92.42 — adding to the inflation narrative. Gold crushed to $4,186, silver -0.53%. Crypto soft, BTC $61,631 (-1.41%).
Movers Before the Bell
- ▸$AMD -3.05% ($459.65) — leading mega-cap semis lower; Cathie Wood reportedly trimmed AMD into NVDA, per Motley Fool overnight.
- ▸$NVDA -1.98% ($204.05) — caught in the broad semi/AI flush despite the Apple-AI read-through tagged as a Google/Nvidia "win."
- ▸$GOOGL -1.00% ($360.50) — giving back some of yesterday's Apple-AI halo trade.
- ▸$AMZN -0.69% ($242.91) — Benzinga flagging a specific story this morning; thin tape, treat the print with caution.
- ▸$COIN -2.34% ($151.86) — tracking crypto weakness; BTC under $62K.
- ▸$GLD -2.77% ($379.97) — single biggest macro mover, mirroring the futures dump in gold.
Pre-market quotes are thin — bid/ask is gappy on anything outside mega-cap. Size accordingly.
Still Ahead Today
The 8:30 CPI was the main event. No additional high-impact US releases on the calendar in the window. Watch Fed speaker tape and any chatter around the IPO boom (Investing.com flagged it overnight) for risk-appetite read-throughs. Energy desks will be parsing $90 crude implications into tomorrow's session.
Game Plan
$SPY last $731.83 (-0.50%). Key levels:
- ▸Resistance: $737.05 (yesterday's close) — gap fill is the bull's first job.
- ▸Pivot: $730 — round number, must hold for dip-buyers.
- ▸Support: $725 — below opens air to $720.
Trade idea: Fade rips into $735-737 unless the 10Y rolls back under 4.50%. If $730 breaks on volume post-open, momentum shorts to $725. Long-side requires yields cooperating — they aren't, yet.
