Rocket Lab Raises Funds To Prepare For Closing Of Iridium Acquisition
Rocket Lab (RKLB) closed a $1.94 billion equity offering and amended its credit facility to finance its acquisition of Iridium Communications (IRDM), expected to close mid-2027. The financing allowed RKLB to cancel a $3.6 billion bridge loan previously arranged for the deal.
The transaction merges Rocket Lab's launch and satellite manufacturing operations with Iridium's 95-satellite low Earth orbit constellation, positioning RKLB as an end-to-end space infrastructure provider. Iridium operates a global communications network serving IoT, aviation, maritime, and government customers.
The equity raise signals management confidence in closing the deal and integrating the two platforms. The amended credit facility restructures RKLB's debt profile ahead of what the company calls a "transformational" combination.
RKLB shares have been volatile since the deal was announced, and the funding milestone removes a key execution risk. The 2027 timeline gives both companies an extended integration runway.
