SpaceX Shares Surge as Elon Musk Makes Huge Revenue Prediction. Is the Stock Still a Buy?
SpaceX (SPCX) shares surged after Elon Musk projected $500 billion to $1 trillion in annual recurring revenue by 2027, a target he tied to expanded compute capacity and faster Starship launches.
The prediction landed against a strong reported base. Q3 revenue rose 161% to $14.6 billion, and the AI segment climbed to $7.56 billion. Interpretation: AI now accounts for roughly half of quarterly revenue, so Musk's 2027 target leans heavily on that segment continuing to scale.
The gap between the reported figures and the forecast is wide. Annual recurring revenue of $500 billion to $1 trillion compares with a $14.6 billion quarter, implying a multiple-fold jump in under two years. Analysts flag that Musk's record on ambitious predictions is spotty, which gives the market reason to discount the headline number.
Two named risks temper the rally. First, Starship execution: the revenue path depends on accelerated launches, and any delay undercuts the thesis. Second, potential oversupply in AI infrastructure, which would pressure the segment driving the growth story.
