SpaceX joins the Nasdaq-100 on July 7 in one of the fastest additions to the index on record. The company reported $18.7 billion in revenue for 2025, up 33% year-over-year, but posted a $4.9 billion net loss for the period.

The addition comes with a stretched valuation of 112 times sales, putting SpaceX at the expensive end of the spectrum for newly public companies. Historical precedent for large IPOs offers a wide range of outcomes: more than half of newly public stocks trade below their offering price within six months of debut.

Based on historical data for similar index additions, a $10,000 investment could fluctuate between $2,300 and $31,700 by December, depending on which precedent SpaceX follows. The 112x sales multiple leaves little room for execution missteps or revenue disappointments in the near term.
