Stellantis Stock Is Soaring. Europe Is Crashing the Party.
STLA jumped 15% after Q3 results showed €828 million in cost improvements and adjusted operating income rising to €256 million. The print points to a turnaround gaining traction, but the regional split shows how uneven the recovery remains.
North America delivered the clearest win. The region swung to profitability with a 0.4% margin. That is a thin cushion, but the direction matters: it moved from a loss to a profit.
Europe went the other way. The region flipped from a €157 million profit to a €311 million loss, a swing of €468 million. The cause, per the article, was higher EV sales combined with pricing pressure. Interpretation: the volume mix that boosted sales appears to be eroding profitability there, rather than helping it.
The €828 million in cost improvements is the engine behind the group-level gain. The open question is whether those savings can offset Europe's deterioration while North America's margin builds from a very small base. A 15% single-session move prices in significant optimism against a profit picture that remains fragile and concentrated in one region's improvement.
