Stock Market Today, Oct. 14: CoreWeave Plummets on Gartner Neocloud Warning and Bond Yield Surge
CoreWeave (CRWV) plunged 15.46% on October 14, 2026, as a Gartner warning on neocloud survival collided with a hot inflation print and a spike in the company's borrowing costs.
Gartner warned that 80% of neoclouds could disappear by 2030, putting more than $3.5 trillion in AI infrastructure spending at risk of impairment. That call hit the entire neocloud category, and CRWV took the brunt of it.
Two other pressures piled on. Higher-than-expected CPI data soured the macro backdrop. Separately, CRWV's bond yields surged to 15%, which fueled concern about a private credit bubble tied to AI buildouts. Interpretation: a 15% cost of debt directly challenges the economics of funding capacity expansion, which is the core of the neocloud model.
The selloff came despite strong Q2 results and a large contract backlog. That gap suggests investors are repricing financing and survival risk rather than near-term demand. Interpretation: strong fundamentals did not offset balance-sheet concerns when sentiment turned.
Investors reassessed capacity spending across AI cloud infrastructure providers, which puts peers such as Nebius Group (NBIS) in the same risk conversation as CRWV.
