Taiwan Semiconductor Just Reclaimed a $2 Trillion Market Cap. It Still Trades at About 20 Times Forward Earnings.
Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing (TSM) crossed $2.1 trillion in market capitalization following a 7.6% single-day surge on July 30, marking a return to the elite valuation tier. The stock trades at approximately 20 times forward earnings—a multiple in line with large-cap averages despite the chipmaker's outsized growth.
Second-quarter results drove the rally: revenue climbed 34% year-over-year to $40.2 billion, while net income jumped 77%. The company issued strong third-quarter guidance and highlighted the early-stage ramp of its 2-nanometer process technology, positioning TSMC at the leading edge of semiconductor manufacturing as AI and high-performance computing demand accelerates.
The 20x forward earnings multiple appears modest relative to the growth profile, particularly as the 2nm node enters production. TSMC's dominance in advanced chip manufacturing gives it pricing power and customer lock-in that few competitors can match.
