Tesla Wins Major Semi Order and That Might Not Even Be the Best Part
Tesla (TSLA) landed a 2,500-unit Semi truck order from ZET SCALE, marking the largest electric heavy commercial truck order in U.S. history. The deal's structure may prove more significant than its size: ZET Financial's leasing program removes residual-value risk from fleet operators, eliminating a key adoption barrier that has slowed EV truck deployment.
The financing solution could unlock broader fleet demand, though bulk pricing on an order of this scale may compress Tesla's margins in the near term. Tesla's Nevada Semi factory is currently ramping production, with capacity targets of 5,000 to 15,000 units by 2026. The company has flagged European expansion for 2027.
The ZET SCALE order represents meaningful commercial validation for the Semi program, which has seen limited large-scale deployments since initial deliveries began. The leasing model addresses the capital-intensive nature of fleet electrification, potentially creating a replicable framework for future enterprise customers.
