This Oil Major Is Perfectly Positioned to Benefit From Trump's Oil Deal With Venezuela
President Trump announced a 25-year agreement granting the U.S. control of more than 65 billion barrels of Venezuelan oil reserves, positioning CVX as the primary beneficiary among American energy majors.
CVX is the only major U.S. oil company currently operating in Venezuela and already produces approximately one-fourth of the country's total oil output. The company maintains refining infrastructure specifically designed to process Venezuela's heavy crude, giving it a structural advantage over competitors should production ramp up under the new framework.
The deal provides CVX with potential access to one of the world's largest proven oil reserves without the exploration and development costs typically associated with new acreage. Venezuela holds some of the planet's most substantial crude deposits, though production has languished for years under previous political and economic constraints.
CVX's existing footprint in the country—both upstream production and downstream refining capacity tailored to Venezuelan heavy crude—creates a natural monopoly position among U.S. energy firms as the agreement takes effect.
