What's Going on with Alphabet Stock? 3 Things Investors Should Know

Alphabet posted Q3 2026 revenue of $127.6 billion, up 25%, with Google Cloud revenue doubling. The print landed alongside a spending number that has investors on edge: annual capital expenditure of $195-205 billion on AI infrastructure.

Cloud is the standout. Google Cloud carries a $561 billion backlog, and its profitability is improving. That backlog gives the segment a large contracted revenue base, which supports the argument that the heavy infrastructure outlay has demand behind it.

The bear case centers on Search. Investors worry that AI-powered search generates less ad revenue than traditional search. Because Search advertising is the core profit engine behind GOOGL and GOOG, any evidence of monetization slippage would pressure the thesis that growth can fund the buildout. This is interpretation: the 25% growth rate suggests the concern has not yet shown up in the top line, but the spending scale raises the cost of being wrong.

The tension is straightforward. Revenue growth and a $561 billion backlog argue for execution, while a $195-205 billion annual capex run rate demands returns that are not yet proven. Share classes GOOG and GOOGL will likely trade on which narrative wins.
