Why Adtran Stock Withered on Wednesday
ADTRAN slid 14% Wednesday after slashing its second-quarter revenue guidance to $280-282 million from a prior range of $283-303 million. The telecom equipment maker blamed a project delay from an unnamed major client for the miss. The company also flagged rising component and freight costs that will weigh on profitability.
Third-quarter guidance disappointed as well. ADTRAN forecast revenue of $275-295 million, well below the analyst consensus of $301 million. The twin guidance cuts signal persistent headwinds in telecom capital spending and supply chain pressure that the company has struggled to offset.
The 14% single-day drop reflects investor concern that the unnamed customer delay could be systemic rather than isolated, particularly given the weak Q3 outlook. ADTRAN now faces margin compression from input costs at the same time revenue is rolling over.
