Why Arm Holdings Stock Plummeted by Nearly 10% Today
ARM dropped nearly 10% on Friday after Intel's weak fourth-quarter guidance triggered a broad semiconductor sell-off, even though Intel's own Q3 results came in strong.
INTC projected significant sequential declines in revenue, gross margin, and earnings for Q4. That outlook overshadowed the quarter just reported and pulled chip stocks lower across the group, with ARM taking a hit near 10% in a single session.
The move looks like a sector-sentiment reaction rather than a company-specific warning. ARM did not issue guidance of its own. Interpretation: traders appear to be treating INTC's outlook as a read-through on demand and costs across the chip supply chain, and selling ARM alongside it.
ARM's asset-light business model may provide some insulation compared with manufacturers like INTC, since it does not carry the same production exposure. Still, the company remains vulnerable to two pressure points flagged in the coverage: PC shipment contractions and rising component costs. If INTC's guidance reflects softer PC demand, ARM is not fully shielded from that weakness.
