Why Constellation Energy Rallied Today
Constellation Energy (CEG) jumped 12.31% after signing a two-part nuclear power deal with Alphabet to supply its AI data centers in the PJM grid region.
The agreement stacks two long-dated contracts: a 20-year, 890-MW power purchase agreement and a 15-year, 2,700-MW PPA. Combined, that is 3,590 MW of contracted nuclear supply tied to Alphabet's AI buildout (GOOG, GOOGL).
Constellation is committing $4.3 billion to expand its nuclear capacity to serve the contracts. That puts real capital behind the volume commitments. The two terms, 15 and 20 years, lock in demand well beyond a typical trading horizon.
The deal also runs both ways. Alphabet will use Google Cloud's Gemini Enterprise to help optimize Constellation's power production efficiency. Interpretation: the tie-up goes beyond a simple buyer-seller relationship, though the source gives no figures on the efficiency gains.
For CEG, the 12.31% move reprices the stock around a large, multi-decade offtake agreement with a named hyperscale customer. The $4.3 billion capital outlay is the counterweight, since expansion spending now sits against that contracted demand.
