Why Did Honeywell Aerospace Stock Drop on Thursday?
HONA plunged 10.5% on Thursday even after posting a Q3 earnings beat, as weak growth numbers overshadowed the headline surprise.
The company earned $2.21 per share against a forecast of $1.86, a $0.35 beat. Growth told a different story: sales rose just 2% year-over-year, and net profit climbed only 1%.
Segment detail explains the reaction. Commercial original equipment grew 7%, the strongest result reported, but it is the smallest division. The two larger segments, commercial aftermarket and defense/space, grew only 2% and 1% respectively. Interpretation: the fastest-growing piece carries the least weight, so it cannot lift the consolidated figures.
Valuation sharpened the sell-off. HONA trades at roughly 20x free cash flow, a premium multiple that investors appear unwilling to pay when sales growth sits at 2% and profit growth at 1%. The 10.5% drop suggests the market priced in faster expansion than the quarter delivered, and the earnings beat did little to change that view.
