Why FMC Corporation Stock Just Crashed
FMC plunged 32.4% after the company slashed its Q3 guidance, a reset that leaves analyst models badly out of date.
The numbers are stark. FMC now expects Q3 revenue to fall $65-125 million, set against analyst expectations of $866.7 million. Adjusted EBITDA is projected at negative $510-565 million, a swing into deep loss territory that the market punished immediately.
The source points to three drivers. First, demand for agricultural chemicals has weakened. Second, market prices have dropped rapidly as generic competition intensifies. Third, FMC says it must cut prices by $625-675 million to clear inventory.
Interpretation: the inventory-clearing price cuts are the key detail. A $625-675 million price concession is the same order of magnitude as the guided EBITDA loss, which suggests the pricing hit, not volume alone, is driving the collapse in profitability. Generic competition pressuring prices also raises the question of whether the pressure is cyclical or structural, a distinction the guidance alone does not resolve.
A 32.4% single-session drop reflects how far the guidance sits from consensus. Estimates will likely be reset sharply lower.
