Why Intel Stock Collapsed 23.4% Last Month
INTC dropped 23.4% in October as soft PC demand and foundry worries overwhelmed a strong AI and data center showing.
The split inside the business explains the move. INTC's AI and data center segment grew 78%, yet the traditional PC business declined 5%. The market weighted the legacy drag and the foundry question more heavily than the growth segment.
Foundry is the sore spot. Revenue in that unit grew 58%, but INTC loses more than $1 billion per quarter there, and the unit is underperforming expectations compared with competitors, including TSM. Growth that large paired with losses that deep points to a business still far from self-funding.
Valuation adds pressure. INTC trades at a price-to-sales ratio of 5.3. Interpretation: that multiple sits uneasily against a PC segment shrinking 5% and a foundry arm burning cash, which is why the source characterizes the stock as overvalued relative to current growth prospects. Even after a 23.4% monthly decline, the multiple has not cleared the bar the fundamentals set.
