Why Marvell Stock Rallied Tuesday Morning
Marvell (MRVL) jumped as much as 11% Tuesday after CEO Matt Murphy laid out aggressive multi-year revenue targets at the company's investor day.
Murphy guided to fiscal 2027 revenue of $12 billion and fiscal 2028 revenue of $20 billion, implying 45-50% year-over-year growth. Looking further out, he floated potential 2031 revenue of $70-90 billion. The scale of that long-range figure relative to the near-term targets is what likely drove the move.
The bull thesis rests on hyperscalers shifting toward custom ASICs over GPUs for AI workloads, a trend that positions Marvell as a beneficiary. That framing puts MRVL in a different lane from NVDA, whose GPUs are the incumbent choice for those workloads. Interpretation: if custom silicon takes share, Marvell's targets look more credible, though the investor day alone doesn't prove that shift is happening at the pace implied.
Valuation is the debate. MRVL trades at roughly 27x sales on current figures, a premium multiple. Against expected 2028 sales, the multiple compresses to about 13x, which is how bulls argue the stock is reasonably priced. That argument depends entirely on Marvell hitting the $20 billion target.
