Why Oracle Stock Is Down Today
Oracle (ORCL) fell 6.9% after the company announced a $20 billion capital raise: $10 billion in new stock and $10 billion in bonds, earmarked for its AI infrastructure buildout.
The size of the raise matches the $20 billion limit Oracle previously announced through fiscal 2030, so the number itself was not a surprise. The selling suggests the market is reacting to what comes next rather than to the headline figure.
Two worries are driving the drop. First, investors are asking whether this is the final raise or the first of several. Second, they fear capital spending could expand beyond current plans. Neither question has a clear answer yet, and uncertainty over total funding needs is pressuring the shares.
Compounding the concern, data center revenue faces delays tied to construction issues and political opposition. Interpretation: Oracle is paying upfront for capacity that is not yet producing revenue on schedule, which stretches the gap between spending and returns. Funding through $10 billion of new equity also dilutes existing shareholders, while the $10 billion in bonds adds to the debt load.
