Why Palantir Technologies Stock Crashed Today
PLTR fell 3.5% even after posting record Q3 results, as a sharp slowdown in contract value growth overshadowed a clean earnings beat.
The company reported $2.3B in revenue, up 96% year over year, and topped earnings expectations. The market focused elsewhere. Contract value growth decelerated to 6% YoY, down from 49% in Q2. That is a drop of 43 percentage points in a single quarter.
Contract value is a forward-looking figure, and the reaction suggests investors read the deceleration as a warning about future revenue momentum rather than a footnote to a strong quarter. That is interpretation, not a stated company outlook, but the price action fits it.
Valuation amplified the move. At 147x earnings, PLTR carries a premium multiple that leaves little room for any sign of cooling growth. A stock priced that richly tends to punish even small disappointments in forward indicators, and the 3.5% decline shows a beat on trailing numbers was not enough to offset the concern.
The setup is a familiar one: strong reported results, a weakening leading indicator, and a stretched multiple.
