Why Pan American Silver Stock Was Tumbling Today
Pan American Silver (PAAS) dropped nearly 10% after second-quarter earnings missed Wall Street targets on both the top and bottom lines. The miner reported revenue of $1.12 billion against a consensus estimate of $1.16 billion, while adjusted earnings per share came in at $0.73, below the $0.92 analysts expected.
Despite the miss, underlying results showed improvement. Revenue climbed from $812 million in the year-ago quarter, and adjusted net income nearly doubled to $308 million. Silver production hit guidance at 6.5 million ounces, but gold operations underperformed.
Management lowered full-year production guidance to the bottom end of its previously announced range, a signal that operational headwinds persist beyond the quarter. The combination of weaker-than-expected earnings and downgraded production targets triggered the sell-off as traders repriced near-term cash flow expectations.
