Why Sandisk Stock Plunged Today

SNDK fell 9.6% today even after a fiscal Q1 2027 report that crushed expectations, a reminder that a blowout print can still trigger a sell-off when growth looks too steep to repeat.

Revenue surged 378% year-over-year to $11 billion, and adjusted EPS reached $49.51. Management tied the strength to AI-related demand in data centers and edge computing. The company also raised Q2 guidance and announced an 8-for-1 stock split.

Investors sold anyway. The stated concern is sustainability: when revenue nearly quintuples in a year, the market questions whether the growth rate can hold. That reaction is the source's explanation for the drop. Our interpretation is that expectations were already elevated going into the report, so even a beat paired with higher guidance left little room for upside surprise.

The split adds a second layer. An 8-for-1 split lowers the per-share price without changing the underlying business, but it often widens retail access. Whether that offsets the post-earnings selling pressure is an open question.
