Why Shares of Corning Are Tumbling Lower Today
GLW fell after its Q3 2026 report despite a beat, as traders zeroed in on a weak solar business rather than headline strength.
Corning posted $5.08B in core sales and $0.91 EPS, both ahead of analyst expectations. Positive Q4 guidance accompanied the results. None of it was enough to hold the stock up.
The problem sits in the solar division. Revenue came in flat at $436M, and the segment booked a $7M net loss, a reversal from profitability in the prior-year period. That swing from profit to loss became the focal point of the selloff.
Valuation amplified the reaction. GLW trades at 30.8x forward earnings, a multiple that leaves little room for a soft spot in any segment. Interpretation: at that price, the market appears to be demanding clean execution across every business line, and a flat-revenue, loss-making solar unit gave sellers a reason to take profits despite the topline beat.
The pattern is familiar. A beat-and-raise-style print gets sold when one weak segment collides with a rich multiple, suggesting expectations were set above what the consensus numbers captured.
