Why Shopify Stock Dove Today

SHOP fell 5.32% even as Shopify beat on both the top and bottom line, with guidance-related metrics doing the damage.

Q3 revenue hit $3.74B, up 32% year over year. Adjusted EPS came in at $0.49, up 44%. Those numbers cleared expectations, but traders focused on what fell short.

GMV landed at $119.2B against a $120.1B forecast, a miss of roughly $900M. Subscription revenue reached $836M versus the $850M expected, a shortfall of $14M. Both are small in percentage terms, yet the market treated them as meaningful.

Valuation sharpens the reaction. SHOP trades at a 99x P/E. That is well below its three-year average of 169x, but it still leaves little cushion when volume and subscription metrics undershoot. Interpretation: the selloff reflects a premium multiple colliding with minor misses, not a deterioration in the headline growth rates.
