Why Super Micro Computer Stock Popped Today
SMCI jumped 9.69% after Super Micro Computer pre-announced Q1 FY2027 revenue of $18.5-$19.5 billion, blowing past its own prior guidance of $14.5-$15.5 billion and Wall Street's roughly $15 billion consensus.
The gap is substantial. The low end of the new range sits about $3 billion above the top of the old guidance, and about $3.5 billion above the Street's estimate. Management attributed the outperformance to strong AI data center demand.
Margins moved the right way too. Gross margin is now expected at 12-12.5%, up from prior guidance of 10.4-10.8%. That is roughly 120-170 basis points of improvement at the guided levels, meaning the revenue beat did not come at the expense of profitability, a common worry with high-volume server shipments.
The read-through extended to peers. DELL and HPE both benefited from the print, as traders treated SMCI's results as a signal of robust AI infrastructure spending across server makers. That is interpretation, not confirmed demand data for either company. SMCIP and HPEPC, the related preferred securities, sit in the same orbit, though the source gives no price action for them.
