Why The RealReal Stock Popped on Thursday
REAL jumped 12% Thursday after The RealReal announced a debt refinancing that slashes its leverage and pushes out its maturity wall.
The company is replacing higher-interest debt due in 2029 with a new $150M term loan and a $25M revolving credit facility. Both carry a 5.75% interest rate, and maturity extends to October 2033, roughly four years beyond the existing deadline.
The headline number is the debt target. Management aims to cut total debt from $463M to $150M, a reduction of $313M, or about 68%. Management also says it plans to maintain positive free cash flow growth while doing so.
Interpretation: the market is rewarding balance sheet repair. A lower debt load and a later maturity date reduce near-term refinancing risk, and a 12% single-day move suggests investors had been pricing in meaningful balance sheet stress. A smaller debt stack also means less cash directed toward interest, which supports the free cash flow narrative management is pushing.
