Will MMM's Safety & Industrial Segment Remain a Core Strength in 2026?

MMM's Safety and Industrial segment delivered broad-based growth in Q2 2026, and management paired it with an upbeat full-year outlook: adjusted organic sales growth of more than 3.5% and adjusted earnings of $8.80-$8.95 per share.

The segment's numbers drove the quarter. Industrial adhesives and tapes sales rose 13%. Personal safety climbed 9.4%. Organic sales grew 8.2%. Those figures sit well above the 3.5% full-year organic growth guide, which suggests the segment is running ahead of the company-wide target. That is interpretation, not reported fact: if the segment sustains anything near its Q2 pace, the guidance leaves room for upside.

The peer picture is mixed. HON faced softness in its Process Automation segment, a contrast to MMM's breadth across product lines. CSL showed strength in Construction Materials, giving the group a split between laggards and leaders rather than a uniform industrial trend.

For positioning, the relevant comparison is MMM's 13% and 9.4% category growth against HON's Process Automation weakness. Interpreted conservatively, the divergence favors MMM on relative execution, while CSL's Construction Materials strength shows demand pockets exist elsewhere in the group.
